We Are La Voz: Resilience Through Art
In recent years, there has been a powerful re-evaluation of fiber arts, once dismissed as mere "handicraft" or "women’s work." Exhibitions like Threads of Change, 25 Million Stitches, and Reclaim the Void have reshaped how artistic practice is understood, highlighting the deep connections between fiber arts and social justice.
Resilience Through Art follows in this tradition, showcasing Latine fiber artists from two rural regions—Upstate New York and the Cauca River Valley in Colombia. This exhibition explores how these women use fabric, thread, and beads to convey powerful messages about identity, resilience, and justice. Featured works include fiber painting, soft sculpture, appliqué, beading, embroidery, and quilting.
Opening Reception: May 2, 5–8 PM
Venue: Orozco Gallery Ithaca, 115 S Cayuga St, Ithaca, NYThe exhibition will include video interviews with Colombian artists, offering insight into their creative processes and the meanings behind their work. Additionally, local and international artists will lead hands-on workshops throughout the month, providing opportunities for the community to engage with fiber arts in a meaningful way.
Join us for opening night to celebrate these incredible artists and their work.
